Several different drugs found in hotel room

A search of a hotel room in Louisiana resulted in two men receiving charges for drug possession on Oct. 22. After the search was executed at the hotel room in Amelia, the 23- and 24-year-old occupants of the room were both taken into custody and booked at St. Mary Parish Jail on various drug charges.

Before the search was conducted, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office had allegedly received reports about drug activity that may have been taking place in the hotel room. Deputies who arrived on the scene reported finding a plastic bag on the floor with a number of different pills inside. Methamphetamine and a loaded firearm were also discovered in the room.

The 23-year-old accused man was charged for possession of Soma, possession of hydrocodone, possession of clonazepam, possession of alprazolam and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The 24-year-old accused man received charges for possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of hydrocodone and possession of alprazolam. The day after the men were booked into jail, no offer of bail had been arranged for either of the accused individuals.

A person who is facing charges for possession of controlled substances may receive more leniency from the court if they can show evidence that they once held valid prescriptions for some of the pharmaceuticals that were found in their possession. A criminal defense attorney may be able demonstrate a defendant’s willingness to seek help for their addiction and help them avoid a prison sentence by advocating for a drug treatment program instead.
