Roadside stop leads to serious drug charges

Louisiana police have arrested a man and charged him with several crimes in connection with a roadside stop. While driving near I-49, deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office noticed a tractor trailer and a pickup truck parked illegally on the side of the Interstate on-ramp. While speaking to the drivers of those vehicles, the deputies felt that the men were acting as though they were nervous. They determined that the driver of the pickup was on probation, and called in probation agents to search the man’s vehicle, which ultimately led to serious drug charges.

That search led to the alleged discovery of less than 6 grams of methamphetamine. The substance was held within several plastic bags. In addition, legend drugs (prescription medication) and drug paraphernalia were also allegedly found within the vehicle. This led the authorities to arrest the driver. The driver of the tractor trailer was released without charges.

The 54-year-old Cyprus resident is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, as well as possession of legend drugs. He is also charged with a probation violation. He is currently under a probation hold at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.

This is the Louisiana man’s second arrest for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. As such, the punitive measures for a conviction would be substantial. As he works with a criminal defense attorney to structure a legal response to these serious drug charges, avoiding conviction will be a top priority. The fact that he was already on probation when arrested will likely further complicate his legal troubles.
