Man faces drug charges after police stop

Drug charges have been filed against one man in Louisiana. The drug charges came after police said they found methamphetamines in the man’s vehicle. At the time of the alleged drug discovery, two kids who were younger than 10 years old were also reportedly riding in the car.

This incident occurred a little after 12:30 a.m. on a Thursday. Police pulled a car over for a traffic violation related to the vehicle’s headlights. However, police said when they were talking to the driver, they noticed that he was attempting to conceal something.

The 30-year-old man was then asked to leave the vehicle. When he got out of the car, police allegedly discovered a bag on the floorboard that contained methamphetamines along with a syringe that was filled with an unidentified substance. Authorities also said they found on the man two small bags of white powder folded up inside a dollar bill.

As the case moves forward through the Louisiana criminal court system, the man facing drug charges — alongside the man’s legal counsel — might have the chance to negotiate a plea deal in exchange for lighter charges or favorable sentencing considerations. The decision of whether to take a plea deal, if one is offered, is solely the defendant’s. The defendant retains the right to go to trial on the merits of the accusations if he or she feels this is in his or her best interest. At trial, the prosecution has to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt or else no conviction can happen.
