Car accidents happen every single day in Louisiana and across the country. While they may vary in severity, they can happen for reasons that are not necessarily criminal in nature. However, a man in Louisiana is now likely considering his criminal defense after several criminal charges were filed against him following a fatal crash.

Police reports indicate that the crash that led to the 32-year-old man’s arrest happened at approximately 5 p.m. on a day in September. According to police, the man was speeding when he is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to exit the roadway. The vehicle reportedly hit multiple trees before turning over.

A 7-year-old passenger is believed that have been unbuckled at the time of the crash. Reports indicate that she was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away. The driver is being treated for serious injuries suffered in the crash.

Although a toxicology panel has yet to be completed, Louisiana police believe that the driver was impaired at the time of the crash. He has since been charged with reckless operation and vehicular homicide, among other charges. Reports indicate that additional charges may be filed. Because of the seriousness of the accusations against him, he is likely working alongside an experienced criminal defense attorney to help ensure that he is fully prepared to make informed decisions about the direction of his case, including whether to fight the charges in court or accept a plea deal.
