Louisiana man charged with running meth lab

A 30-year-old Baton Rouge man was arrested on suspicion of running a meth lab on Jan. 13. The alleged lab was discovered by police when they were investigating a disturbance on the property.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, deputies discovered what appeared to be a meth lab in a backyard shed at a residence located on the 3200 block of Quebec Drive. Substances found in the shed reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine. Deputies said they also found a plastic container of meth in the defendant’s pocket as well as drug paraphernalia and several grams of marijuana elsewhere in the shed.

The man reportedly told authorities that he had been living in the shed but that the meth lab equipment was there before he moved in. However, authorities said the lab appeared active, and they arranged for a crime scene cleaning service to decontaminate the scene. The man was charged with operating a clandestine meth lab, possession of marijuana and possession of schedule II narcotics. He is being held in jail on a $20,000 bond.
