Sex crimes involving minors can carry severe consequences. Not only that, but Louisiana police officers and federal investigators take such crimes very seriously. After recently being arrested for a sex crime, one Keithville man will soon find out what those consequences could be.
According to the Louisiana attorney general, a 41-year-old Keithville man was the subject of a joint investigation into alleged child pornography. Reports say the Attorney General’s High Technology Crime Unit, the North Louisiana Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, Homeland Security and state police were all involved in the investigation that led to the Keithville man’s arrest.
According to investigators, the man was in violation of state law that prohibits the production, distribution or possession of child pornography. He was arrested Friday and was booked in the Caddo Correctional Center. He now faces charges of pornography involving juveniles.
This man’s situation clearly illustrates how serious law enforcement agencies take sex crimes. Not only do they devote extensive time and resources to investigate these crimes, the punishments for a conviction are just as severe. And when prosecutors are under pressure from the public to get a conviction in every sex crimes case, knowing your rights and options is extremely important.
If you have been charged with a sex crime, you could be facing prison time and, in some cases, lifetime registry as a sex offender. Your freedom is at stake, which is why you should consider speaking to an experienced criminal defense attorney who can help you understand your options as you challenge sex crimes charges.
