Louisiana police take illegal drug use or possession very seriously. Being convicted of a drug crime can have harsh consequences, including expensive fines and possibly jail time. One man from Frierson, Louisiana, is now facing those consequences after police found him in possession of marijuana.
According to local news reports, police somehow discovered that the 37-year-old Frierson man was receiving marijuana by mail from another state. That is when the Tri-Parish Drug Task Force began its investigation. The man was arrested last week, and police say they found between two and three ounces of high quality marijuana in his possession.
This man’s legal troubles did not end there. Police also say they discovered a dozen weapons, 88 loaded magazines and 8,000 rounds of ammunition. It is likely that he will faces charges for both the drugs and the weapons.
What this man’s situation shows is that if police suspect you of taking part in illegal activity, they will not hesitate to launch an investigation. If you suspect you are being investigated for a crime, speaking to an experienced defense attorney may be appropriate.
One of the best ways you can protect yourself when facing criminal charges is to understand your rights and the laws surrounding them. For example, it is not unheard of for police officers to jump the gun and search a person’s property without a warrant. If it is determined that police performed an illegal search, any evidence found during that search may become inadmissible in court. It is important to know your rights so you can protect your freedom.
