Not long ago, a Louisiana couple was issued drug charges after authorities confirmed that they had synthetic marijuana and a smoking device in a local hotel room. Though authorities were initially unsure of the exact nature of the materials found, police sent the item to a lab for testing prior to the confirmation.
The Louisiana couple was eventually arrested. They were at the Louisiana Boardwalk in the Courtyard Marriott Hotel when the incident occurred. The pair turned themselves in to Bossier City police once the positive lab results came back and arrest warrants were issued.
Police came to their hotel room after receiving a 911 hang-up call, which is when they discovered the synthetic marijuana. Such a call may raise a concern to authorities because it is unclear what led a person dial 911 in the first place.
As this case shows, drug charges can arise when you are least expecting them. Regardless of whether the reports in this matter are correct, the couple has the right to defend themselves against the accusations, challenge physical evidence offered against them and confront witnesses called by the prosecution in support of its allegations. Often, what is reported in a newspaper turns out to be only one part of a story, and we will have to await further proceedings to learn if the facts proved are in accordance with the facts alleged. Drug charges often come with serious penalties, so speaking to an experienced defense attorney may be beneficial in cases like this.
