Lives of teenagers changed because of drunk driving

The death of a child is one of the hardest things in life to cope with. When that tragedy is because of drunk driving, the impact is magnified. Such an accident happened near Baton Rouge on a recent weekend. One teenager is dead and another suffered serious injuries.

The Louisiana accident happened near Oak Harbor Drive on LA 70 on a recent Friday night. A young girl and two friends were out for a fun Friday evening. The teenagers were traveling in a Honda Accord when a GMC Sierra pickup truck crossed the center line and collided with the Honda. All of the girls were transported to an area hospital, two with serious injuries and one with minor injuries. One girl died a short time later as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

The teenagers were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The driver of the Sierra submitted to a Breathalyzer test and the result showed a blood alcohol content of .179, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08. The driver was treated for minor injuries and faces charges of vehicular homicide, driving while impaired, driving left of center and not wearing a seat belt. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
