The battle against the opioid epidemic and other illegal drugs continues in Louisiana. A man was arrested in New Orleans following a police chase. The man pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including drug charges, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The man was identified as a suspect by authorities after an undercover operation that was carried out by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force. The suspect was pursued on foot and jumped into a canal in an effort to elude capture. A detective jumped into the canal to rescue him when the suspect cried out for help and stated he could not swim.
