3 men face sex crime charges in Louisiana

Three men in Louisiana were recently arrested for child pornography. The arrests on sex crime charges took place as part of an investigation by the office of the State Attorney General. The men arrested are 47, 31 and 25 years old.

The older man was taken into custody and charged with the distribution of child porn involving children under 13 years of age (three counts). The 31-year-old man was also arrested for pornography involving minors under age 13 (20 counts). The youngest man was accused of a total of 1,000 counts of videos and/or images of the sexual abuse of children under age 13.

The arrests were made after federal, state and local agencies investigated the cases. The attorney general has completed investigations into thousands of computer sex crimes. The alleged sex crimes have involved infants up to children 16 years of age.

A person who faces sex crime charges in Louisiana faces harsh penalties if he or she is actually convicted. These penalties typically include a lengthy prison sentence and having to register as a sex offender for the rest of one’s life. Prosecutors often are willing to take a weak case to court due to the intense pressure they feel from the public to obtain a conviction in a sex crime case. However, prosecutors have to prove the sex crime charges beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction can be secured. A close look at the evidence that the prosecution plans to provide at trial may very well be a main area of focus for the criminal defense in this type of criminal case.
