Another overdose death leads to drug charges

The opioid crisis and resulting overdose deaths continue to plague our society and the state of Louisiana. Such is the situation in a recent New Orleans case. A young man appeared to suffer a fatal overdose. Two men have been charged with second degree murder in connection with the young man’s death. The two in question are alleged to have sold the deceased the heroin that killed him.

The two people charged, along with two other people, are facing additional criminal counts in connection with the overdose death. One of the two men charged in connection with the death is currently in federal custody on suspicion of weapons possession and drug charges. He is suspected of being the leader of a narcotics network.

The Constitution of the United States says that a person accused of a crime in Louisiana is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The accused has the right to legal counsel.
