Police find drug paraphernalia in Louisiana woman’s underwear

A 25-year-old woman is facing drug charges following a traffic stop in Baton Rouge on Dec. 8. According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the defendant was a passenger in a car pulled over for failing to use a turn signal.

The arresting officer alleges the driver threw something out of the window before coming to a stop. After the two people in the car were detained, the officer claims to have spotted a metal pipe, which was burned on one end, on the floor of the car near the driver’s seat. A search of the vehicle turned up several white rock-like crystals in the rear of the car, which tested positive for cocaine. The defendant then allegedly told the officer that she used the pipe earlier in order to smoke crack cocaine.

The defendant was booked at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of crack cocaine. When processed at the prison, she was allegedly found to have two glass crack pipes, one metal crack pipe, a spoon with burn marks, rolling paper and a used needle tucked in her underwear. She received an additional charge for bringing drugs into the prison. She is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Someone facing a drug possession charge following a traffic stop may wish to hire a lawyer to fight the accusation in court. A lawyer could examine the case for signs police did not have probable cause when they searched the defendant’s vehicle, which could mean any evidence seized is inadmissible. Depending on the circumstances of the case, it also may be possible to get the charges reduced or dismissed in exchange for the defendant’s participation in a drug rehabilitation program.
