Teacher accused of sex crime requests change in house arrest

A 32-year-old Louisiana teacher who was accused of being sexually involved with a 16-year-old student requested that the terms of her house arrest be reduced on Nov. 19. The woman was originally released from custody on a $200,000 bond; however, she was required to remain at home until her next court appearance.

The teacher was charged with one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile stemming from an alleged sexual encounter with a student who was reportedly 16 at the time. She, along with a second teacher, was taken into custody on Sept. 31. Both teachers were accused of being involved with the student after a high school football game sometime in the month of September.

The motion requested that the woman’s curfew be changed so that she remained at home between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. This would allow her to drop of her children at school and attend other appointments. The motion was scheduled to be heard on Nov. 25 in St. Charles Parish.

Those who are facing sex crime charges are potentially facing a prison sentence and the loss of their job if they are convicted. Additionally, they may also be required to register as a sex offender, which could keep them from being able to seek employment that involves being around underage individuals in the future.
