There are multiple different potential causes of a car accident. At night, a person could have more difficulty seeing, especially when cars are stopped or parked illegally. Even if a police officer on the side of the road has his or her lights engaged, for example, those lights can prove more disorienting than helpful. Unfortunately, a Louisiana man has recently been accused of drunk driving following a motor vehicle collision involving a police officer’s car.

The incident happened during the early morning hours of a day in early June. According to reports, a police officer had stopped to investigate a vehicle that was illegally parked. The officer claims that he left his emergency lights on as he spoke with the driver of the car in question. The officer claims that he then noticed a sports utility vehicle that concerned him.

The driver of the SUV is accused of failing to slow or move over in response to the flashing lights on the vehicle. In fact, the officer says that the SUV struck the police car but continued on. When the officer was able to stop the SUV, he says that the driver, a 26-year-old man, was intoxicated. A breath test administered at the scene reportedly revealed that the man’s blood alcohol content was over the legal limit.

Unfortunately, a person accused of drunk driving in Louisiana may be unsure of defense options as well as the steps of the criminal process. As a result, an accused individual seeks guidance from a criminal defense attorney with experience with such charges. Such a professional can help ensure that a defendant is fully prepared to make informed decisions regarding the direction the case will follow.
