Sex crime charges filed against security guard

A security guard at a hotel in Louisiana currently faces a charge of sexual assault. According to police, the guard assaulted a guest at the hotel. As with other criminal accusations, these sex crime charges must be proved beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction is possible.

Police said they received word of a sexual assault taking place at around 4:45 a.m. on a recent Saturday. A woman at the hotel reportedly told authorities that she woke up and found the man atop her and assaulting her sexually. She told police she recognized him as the man who had helped her to get into her room the night before.

Police said there was video surveillance that showed the man using a tool and a master key to enter the woman’s room. He was taken into custody on a Tuesday and currently faces a second-degree-rape charge. He is in jail, with his bond set at $250,000.

The possible penalties for being convicted on a sex crime charge are harsh in Louisiana, as they include time in prison as well as having to register as a sex offender for life. Defendants facing sex crime charges have the right to proceed to trial to fight the charges, or they may accept plea deals from the prosecution, if offered. In general, plea agreements may lead to reduced charges and therefore more lenient sentences for the accused. In either situation, defense counsel will fight for an outcome that is in the best interests of the client while also making sure that none of his or her rights are violated during the criminal proceedings.
