Woman accused of killing woman in drunk driving accident

Accidents occur every day, often caused by distracted drivers. Cell phones, eating on the go, children fighting in the back seat, or falling asleep at the wheel are all factors that need to be examined in an accident. However, a Louisiana woman is now facing drunk driving and other serious criminal charges after a recent pedestrian accident in what authorities claim as an intentional hit-and-run.

In April of this year, a 54-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle as she crossed the road to check the mail. It is reported that the driver, a 45-year-old woman, intentionally maneuvered her car from the southbound lane to the northbound lane, hitting the pedestrian. The driver then allegedly fled the scene.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital, where she remained in critical condition for two weeks. Unfortunately, the woman died from the injuries she suffered. In addition to the initial charges of the hit-and-run and driving while intoxicated, the driver may be charged with murder charges.

It can be frightening for one to face serious criminal charges from an accident that could lead to extensive fines and potential jail time. However, regardless of how serious the accusations, the accused is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. To help defend oneself from charges one may be facing, it is wise to seek the help of a Louisiana attorney to review the evidence in the case. A criminal defense attorney will help seek the best possible outcome for those accused of drunk driving or any other serious criminal offense.
