Drunk driving suspected after Louisiana accident injures several

Most people are aware of the potential distractions that a driver can face. While many include cell phones or passengers, some people in Louisiana might overlook the fact that potential distractions can also occur outside of a vehicle. For example, one man has recently been arrested after police say his pickup truck crashed into a crowd of people observing a Mardi Gras parade. The driver is suspected of drunk driving.

The accident reportedly happened one evening in late February. Reports indicate that a pickup truck struck two vehicles on the street. A witness claims that it appears that the driver lost control, causing the truck to enter a crowd of people watching the parade.

Reports indicate that 28 people were injured. None of the injuries suffered were life-threatening, and at least seven of the people included in the injury count declined medical treatment. Police say that the man’s blood alcohol content, as reportedly determined by a Breathalyzer, was significantly over the legal limit. While he is currently charged with vehicular negligence resulting in injury, hit-and-run driving and reckless operation, police say that more charges could be filed.

Bail for the 25-year-old man who was allegedly driving the truck has been set at $125,000. If he posts it, he will be subjected to house arrest with an ankle monitor.
