2 arrested on drug charges in Louisiana

Two people in Louisiana were recently arrested on drug charges. The arrests on drug charges took place after police received a call concerning suspicious automobiles. The incident took place at around 10:30 p.m. on a Monday.

Police said they received a call about suspicious cars off of Louisiana Highway 9. When they got to the area, they saw a truck that matched the description of the vehicle they were told about on the call. The person driving the truck drove off but then went into a different business’s parking lot.

When police approached the driver and began to speak to him, the driver reportedly told police he had no driver’s license. The man also allegedly appeared to be nervous, with his hands shaking. When police searched the man, they reportedly found a couple of bags featuring nearly 2 grams of what appeared to be meth. There were also two other people in the vehicle; police said one admitted that she was hiding needles in her pants’ private area. Both the driver and the woman were arrested on multiple charges, including possessing meth and intending to distribute it as well as possessing drug paraphernalia.

As the cases involving drug charges move forward in Louisiana, one or both of the defendants might be offered the chance, alongside their defense counsel, to negotiate plea bargains with prosecutors. A plea deal may offer the benefit of leading to lighter charges and thus a more lenient sentence than what a person may receive if found guilty of a crime at trial. If a defendant does not wish to accept a plea deal, he or she may simply go to trial on the merits. Either way, the criminal defense will make sure that the accused person’s rights are upheld during the criminal proceeding.
